Munster Rugby

Dennis Hurley is responsible for running the Munster Rugby Retail Operation, which is effectively a sports retailer with three retail outlets in Cork, Limerick and at their stadium in Limerick, as well as an online store. Munster Rugby won the Heineken Cup in 2008 and also the Magners League in 2009 with 3 weeks to spare!

The retail operation started 6 years ago in 2003 and at that time operated with old-fashioned till systems which were nothing more than glorified calculators. Before installing Trackit there was no visibility within the business of the amount of stock they held at any one time and they relied solely on their quarterly and annual stock checks to keep any semblance of control. There was literally no information or reporting on margins, money spent on stock, stock levels or even debtor facilities.

Munster Rugby knew that in order to grow and become more profitable they were going to have to install an EPOS system that would provide daily, weekly and monthly reports. Having been involved in other retail system installations previously, Dennis was aware of how painful the process could be but describes his experience of installing the Trackit system as both painless and seamless.

Now that they have installed Trackit, life is a lot easier. At any particular point they can check stock levels , sales and margins in any of the stores. This is right down to the level of identifying best and worst sellers and enables them to move stock from one location to another or reduce stock levels in the case of poor sellers.

One of the bains of a retailer’s life is the stock take and Trackit has allowed Munster Rugby to “save a lot of time and grief” by providing up to the minute stock information without the need for a major stock take. The quarterly stock take used to take around a week to complete.

In addition to the tenfold increase in Munster Rugby’s sales in the time that they have been using Trackit, their profitability has increased by a whopping 20%.

The relationship with Trackit has been so successful that Dennis Hurley says: "As we grow, our relationship with Trackit will grow." They are currently in discussion with Trackit about integrating their online store with their offline business to effect even greater efficiencies.
