Rightway DIY

Rightway DIY is a hardware, gardening and DIY retailer and following the acquisition of another business in late 2008 has a total of 15 retail outlets across North Wales and the Wirral. The stores range in size from 1100 to 5000 square feet.
David Clarke, owner of Rightway DIY, knew that for his growing business EPOS was the correct route to provide the control that he needed to facilitate his business expansion. Armed with a previous unhappy experience of an alternative EPOS system, he went out to seek an EPOS system that would meet his needs and, after extensive research and due diligence, decided that Trackit was the best fit for his business.
David has always been conscious that close stock management and sales performance is vital to the success and profitability of the business and before installing the Trackit system the business operated with a manual till system that involved daily updating of spreadsheets. Despite the relative sophistication of this manual till system much of the decision making was based on finger in the wind guesswork and flying by the seat of his pants!

Although the migration from a manual till system to a computerised till system required dedication and commitment to do it properly, the process has very much been worth the investment.
Trackit has opened up a whole new world of control and information to Rightway DIY. Information is produced very quickly at the touch of a button on:
- Individual site performance
- Profit margins
- Individual product performance
This allows for appropriate and creative decision making to maximise on market opportunities, and offers a measure of control that was unattainable before. In fact the information is so good and so accessible that the business can be managed remotely if necessary, allowing much greater flexibility and freedom.
David says: "It has meant we’re a lot better using the same labour. It’s made us far more efficient, it’s made us more profitable and it’s helped in reducing the working capital that we need to run the business. Over the first 3-4 years it helped us raise our profit margin by 2 to 3 percentage points, which was very noticeable in the bottom line and more than covered the cost of buying the system."
